Life

This is how I feel many times in my life. I wonder what God's will is for my life, and then I begin to play these mind games with myself. "What if this?, what if that?" I am so concerned with making the right decison, with doing God's will, that I end up paralyzed. I tend to think that God's will is some sort of giant mystery, and if I don't get it right, then I have screwed up my life forever. I analyze every detail, think about every possibility, right up to aliens coming down, and end up stuck. Trusting God, making a decison, stepping out on faith seems so difficult. I am so afraid of failing.

All of that to say, I am learing to trust God more. He takes me places I would not have picked, and gives me a life I could not have dreamed of. His ways are higher than my ways. Not to say life is hunky dory, cause right now it is pretty difficult. But I trust, and will try to not stare in the puddle anymore.

P.S. Calvin and Hobbes is one of the best ever. Toss up between it and Far Side

Anytime I try to put into words what having faith means (besides pointing to Hebrews 11), I think of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. In order to reach the Holy Grail, he must pass three tests: spell God's Name in Greek, kneel in "God's presence," and take a leap of faith. Once he is ready to pass the third test, he finds himself on the edge of a canyon with no way across to the other side and the Grail. He has no choice but to step out and believe that the path is there. There really is a path, but it's painted in such a way as to disguise it as the opposite side of the canyon. For me, I find myself standing on the edge of a canyon more often than I would prefer, and when I get there, I just have to accept the fact that there is a path which will lead me ahead. I get to choose whether I walk that path or try to throw a rope across and build my own bridge. The only problem is that my bridge gets burned up simply by being in God's presence and on His mountain. Childlike faith, simply knowing there is a path whether I see it or not, always seems to be the best way to go.
