A Resolution Concerning Allegiance to the Gospel over Political Party

I submitted this resolution for consideration to the 2018 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Dallas.  In this age of divisiveness and clamor it's my desire that the Convention make public that Southern Baptists are not beholden to vote for something just because it has Democrat or Republican attached to it. The SBC needs to pledge it's allegiance to the gospel over political party.

WHEREAS, Scripture declares, “Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and exiles to abstain from sinful desires that wage war against the soul.” (I Peter 2:10-11); and
WHEREAS, The Baptist Faith and Message says, “All Christians are under obligation to seek to make the will of Christ supreme in our own lives and in human society.”; and,
WHEREAS, Christians live in a world that is not our ultimate home; and
WHEREAS, The political system in America has become increasingly divisive; and
WHEREAS, Some in America put their hope for the country on a person or political party; and
WHEREAS, Actions condemned by the Bible should never be accepted for political gains; and
WHEREAS, Churches are being divided over politics and policies; and
WHEREAS, Christians only allegiance is to God in life and death ; and
WHEREAS, Believers in Christ have died to the world and it’s passions but are alive in Christ; and
WHEREAS, There is one calling in Christ, one salvation, one hope, and one God and Father above all, (Ephesians 4:4-6); and
WHEREAS, Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness; and now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Dallas, Texas, June 12-13, 2018, express that our commitment to Christ comes before commitment to any political party; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we pledge allegiance to God over any political party or leader; and be it further
RESOLVED, That we state our belief that morally wrong actions should never be accepted for political gains
RESOLVED, That we restate our loyalty as a people to the Kingdom of God over the kingdom of men; and be it further
RESOLVED, That we pledge to remember all of mankind is made in the image of God and deserving of our love and gospel outreach, regardless of their political affiliation; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That we urge all Christians to vote in accordance with biblical values rather than according to party lines, personalities, or candidate rhetoric; and be it further (Christian citizenship 2004)

RESOLVED, That we urge all Southern Baptists to dedicate our time, money, and lives to  the furtherance of the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ more than the furthering of any political party or platform.
