The Light Behind the Fog
Heavy fog happened several days across our area this week. I took this picture leaving church Wednesday night. It’s hard to see anything in the midst of it all. The fog is so dense and thick it blankets everything. That’s one of the things about fog, it doesn’t care who you are or where you are or anything else. It covers everything equally.
As I drove later in the week, the fog was so thick I couldn’t see in front of me. The only way to see what was behind the fog was to enter the fog. At times it was so heavy it seemed as if the road and trees would disappear. But there’s always something on the other side of the fog.
In the same way many of us live in a fog. It could be because of fear, anxiety, grief, anger, or any other number of things. It just seems like the fog is settled over our lives and nothing can drive it away. It seems as if it is too much for us, like we’ll never know what’s on the other side. But the closer we get to it the clearer we see. Strange thing about fog is that you don’t get a clear picture by backing up, but by going in. It’s the same in our lives. Sometimes we have to enter the unknown to find out that God has been there all along, even if we can’t see him.
The thing about fog is that it’s always temporary. It’s fleeting. It doesn’t last forever. It’s the same way with the sorrows that your face in your life no matter how heavy it seems, no matter how bad it gets, it’s fleeting. It will burn up in the presence of the Son of God when he returns or when you see him face-to-face someday.
Too often we let a little bit of fog control our lives. Don’t let that happen today. Even if the fog is heavy as you sit, pray for the sun to come out and burn it all up. One of the ways you could do that is by going to church and worshiping with God’s people. The light of worship and fellowship has a way of driving away those last vestiges of fog in our hearts and minds.
So if you feel you are living in the fog this morning, don’t just resign yourself and except it. Seek the Light of God, and watch it all burn away.
