Right on time
The first signs of spring are around every corner. Flowers, grass, trees and more are starting to bloom, all at the same time as if following some sort of internal clock. Of course we know what this clock is from a scientific standpoint, as the earth moves in orbit around the sun, rotates on it’s axis, and we get more time in the light during the day. But the orbit of the earth follows it’s own clock too, even as the galaxy itself hurls through space. Imagine trying to keep all of this on time and on schedule. Being responsible for the blooming of springtime would be enough to make even the most organized person sweat to keep it all in line. But each year, the trees change, the grass grows, and the flowers bloom, all on time and without a seeming struggle at all.
As Christians we know how this happens of course. The changing of the seasons are not a burden for God, as if he struggles to keep it all going. He created the world to work in this way, and every changing of the seasons is just nature bowing to his command. No flower blooms without God knowing about it, and without God planning for it to happen.
Then why is it I worry so much about God’s control of my life? I can barely manage to keep my calendar straight, and remember my to do list, but i think God should listen to my ideas about how my life should go. Scripture abounds with promises that God has a plan for our lives, much as he has a plan for every flower and tree. The blooming of spring is like God’s resume to us, a reminder that if he cares for each flower here today and gone tomorrow, then we can trust him to care for us too.
You might be trying to keep control of something in your life. The next time you walk by a flower, let it remind you that God is in control of that, and that he’s in control of your life too. You can loosen your grip on this world, all while knowing that God will never loosen his grip on you. God’s in control, and that is good news.
