Look Up
I was up and out earlier than usual one day this week, with 100 different things to do. I was rushing around trying to get everything done that was on my list, but I knew I needed to take a few minutes to exercise. I tried to get that over with quickly, rushing through the laps I walk, just needing to check it off my list. And then for just a moment I looked up, what I saw stopped me in my tracks.
The sky was crystal clear, the sliver of a moon is bright as it can be. The stars are all fixed in their spots where they need to be. I can make out one of the dippers and a few other constellations. I couldn't help but stop in the middle of busy morning to look at the sky. The stars always amaze me. They are always where they are supposed to be. Fixed, immovable, steady, From hundreds of millions of miles away, and through countless thousands of years they have remained where they are supposed to. They were put there by God for that purpose and they have served that purpose and they will always serve that purpose until God returns.
Because they do what they do, what they were made to do, and were put in place by God to do, because of that we can fix our position on the Earth by them. They have guided ships and travelers for millennia. Millions of people found their direction by the stars, but often I can't even be bothered to look up. Too often today I try to find my direction by what the world tells me I need to do, by marking things off my list, or by trying to fill the need within my soul. But unless my life is directed by God, I will always lose my way.
I pray that today God would help us stop and look up for a moment. The Bible tells us to be still and know that he is God, and looking at the stars always reminds me of that. it's not just the stars though, if we will stop and see God in nature around us, we will be reminded of his and Power, his love for us. Stop and look up today, remember what God has done for you. Find your direction and purpose in him, and thank him for his guidance.
