Little things add up
I stepped outside for some quiet at the end of our snow day, and caught the snow still falling. It’s amazing that so many little flakes can add up to something so great over time. It snowed practically all day, and even when the flakes seemed big it’s hardly enough to amount to all that we got. I read that in one cubic inch of snow there’s around 1,000 snow flakes. After some math (from Chat GPT) I learned that to cover an area the size of my yard with 1 inch of snow it would take 28.8 million snowflakes, and to cover all of Stephens County, OK it would take 3.577 quadrillion snowflakes. And we got more than one inch, across much of Oklahoma!
All of that math to say, the little things add up. You don’t need snow to see that, but it’s hard to believe that each little snowflake in that picture could make that much of a difference. But when added together it’s enough to close schools, business, and change the way we live. Each snowflake is a good reminder of how the little things add up.
We see that in our spiritual life too. The “little” acts of bible reading, prayer, church attendance, and worship have a way of adding up in the life of a Christian. They do more than just get kids out of school for a few days though. Through these small acts of faith and the power of Christ in them, Christians have changed the history of nations, brought down empires of darkness, waged war with principalities and powers, and so much more. When the acts of individuals Christians are then brought together with each other through the church, Jesus says not even the gates of hell can stand against them.
Take the time today to do the little things, for it’s through the little things that big changes are made. Read your bible, pray, go to church. That’s how God changes us and changes the world.
