Keep watering
Drive-through any neighborhood this time of year and most of the lawn are a nice crispy brown. It's been a while since we had rain, and the lawns are one evidence of it. But every once in a while you pass a yardthat is lusciously green and full of life. It's quickly obvious that that lawn gets watered, while the other ones around it do not.
It occurred to me that it's not only lawns that you can tell have been watered. You can also also tell which Christians have spent time watering their soul with the word of God. Even in the midst of a difficult season, their lives seem always full of new growth. It's no secret as to what makes it happen: they are intentionally spending time watering their soul.
No one gets a green lawn by watering it with poison. Nor can a Christian get a healthy soul by watering it with things like social media and online outrage. Your heart and mind will stay close to God only if you take the time to care for it each day.
This happens through daily quiet time, through a prayer life, through setting our mind on the things above and not on the things of the earth. When we learn to not let our minds be captured by the things of this world, but be captured by the beauty and majesty of God, then our lives seem different from those living in the way of the world.
Just like you drive by a lawn and can tell it's been watered, you can spend time with a person and know that they have been with Jesus. Make the time to do that this week. Read your Bible, worship with your church family, spend time alone with God in prayer. Water your soul with thr life-giving water of God's word, and he will bring the increase.
