Getting Clean
We've spent some time cleaning around the church and preparation for our 90th anniversary celebration. One of those items has been pressure washing the sidewalk, and the difference it makes it quite remarkable. It's not like the sidewalks got dirty all at once, but the continual exposure to the elements means that the dirt and grime just piles up. And when it gets too much, the intense and focused pressure of the water can get it off.
Application to our Christian life is easy. Nobody sets out to get dirty, to fill our heart and mind with a muck and mire of the world. But continual exposure to the wicked elements of the world means that it begins to pile up in our hearts. It's not even a decision that we make, or even necessarily a sin that we commit. But part of living in a wicked world means that we will be exposed to the worst it has the offer. At times we need to make sure and give our hearts and mind a focused and dedicated cleaning.
The power of the water to clean the sidewalk is incredible. As it's focused on the spot, even the hardest stains wash away. So it is with the water of God's word in our hearts and minds. Regular and systematic washing of our heart with God's word can ensure that we don't stay stained with the dirt of the world. Even the seemingly indelible stain of sin is washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ, and our hearts are left whiter than snow. Praise God for his mercy that makes us clean! Submit yourself to God's word today, be cleansed by the power of his word! Though him you can have a heart that looks brand new.
