Flowers, just because
I pass this patch of flowers on my way to and from the church. It makes me smile almost every time. They're just there, in a ditch on the side of the road. I doubt that anyone planted it. No one has watered them but God, and if the weathermen are right they will probably burn up in the not too distant future. But for now they're making me smile.
Their simple beauty brings joy to me, in part because there's no reason for it. There are weeds on either side. And even between an amongst them. But still they managed to push through and grow. Even though no one has tended or cared for them, they still persevered and made it.
It seems that beauty always finds a way to push through. And I don't mean the fake beauty that you see on TV. I mean the natural God-given beauty. The beauty of grace, mercy, and kindness, always shines through. Even when there's no real reason for it to be there. Even when no one has cultivated it, some people still manage to shine with natural beauty, if we will only stop to look for it.
Take the time to look for beauty today. It might be in a ditch on the side of the road. It might be in that person that no one else sees value in. It might be in friendship or relationship. It might be in the sunrise or sunset. But Gods beauty always finds a way to shine.
