Don't stop watering
Several weeks ago as we traveled the heat claimed the flowers in this hanging basket. I kept watering it afterwards, even though all hope seemed lost. But then finally this week flowers began to bloom on it.
It seems like a contradiction, because it's almost all dead underneath. But now there are signs of life. Some people might've thought it was only good for the trash, but there was still life in it, as long as it got the nourishment it needed.
I've seen this happen with people as well. It's easy to write them off, because it seems like they are beyond all hope of having new life, let alone bearing flowers or even spiritual fruit, but the steady consistent nourishment of the water of God's word can bring life even when all hope is gone.
You might know someone that you think is beyond hope, but these flowers and testimony of scripture remind us that no one is ever so far gone that they are beyond God's redemption. When there are no signs of spiritual life, the best thing we can do is keep on pouring out the life giving water of God's word. Even when we can't see it, the word of God is living and active, working in the roots and seemingly dead places of our hearts to bring new life.
When the word of God is poured out, even in the harshest of circumstances, it always brings new life. That single flower we see should give us the encouragement we need to keep up the daily watering of our hearts and souls with God's word. Water your life with God's word, and see the blooms that he brings. By God's grace, they come even when we don't expect it.
